High carbon steel like W2, can develop a patina over time with use. This is a thin coating of oxidation and is normal. It can vary in color from light grey to blue to black. Patina is in the same family as rust, however in this case, it the cousin you can like. We recomend your regularly cleaning your tool with Renaissance Wax to reduce oxidation.
